Bio-Boost: Gujarat’s ₹50 Crore Fertiliser Gamble

Gujarat is set to invest ₹50 crore over the next five years to build a robust bio-manufacturing ecosystem focused on enhancing national fertiliser security. Spearheaded by the Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) under the Department of Science and Technology, the initiative aims to commercialise cutting-edge microbial research and agricultural technologies.

The project establishes a complete end-to-end value chain—from microbial discovery and product formulation to field testing and farmer adoption. Key infrastructure developments include a 528.96 sq. mtr. biorepository and a 1,054 sq. mtr. pilot-scale facility at Anand Agricultural University (AAU). Additionally, Gujarat plans to collaborate with major cooperative giants like AMUL, Banas, SUMUL, and KRIBHCO to establish large-scale automated fermentation, formulation, and packaging facilities.
